With the Blessings of Honorable Chairman Dr. Rethinam , and with the guidance of Honorable Director Dr. R.Durai and in the presence of Respected Registrar ChinnaKalai, Respected Member of Governing Body Council Dr. Mathivanan, Respected Principal Dr.P.S.Srinivasan, Vice Principal, and Assistant Professors Dr. M. Meikeerthi, Mr. K.V. Thulasi Krishnan, Ms. S. Sindhuja, Mr. P. Anand were present and the G.T.N. Law college organized a special lecture on “Seeking Information is an Art under Right to Information Act, 2005” on 24.07.2023. The special lecture was delievered by Thiru. Leenus, Senior Advocate, Madras High Court ( Madurai Bench).Right to Information Act 2005 is a significant legislation in our country. Further the Act acts as a milestone of the Indian Democracy. Our Chief Guest emphasized that a corruption free state and transparency in the Government machinery would be possible only through proper implementation of the Right to Information Act 2005. Our Chief Guest described the objectives and the importance of the Right to Information Act, and also how the Below Poverty Line people have been exempted from paying the stamp fees. Our chief guest also explained about the RTI Act flows from two Fundamental Rights enshrined in our Constitution. Therefore, Article 19 – Freedom of Speech and Expression and Article 21 – Right to Life and Personal Liberty and also the Right to acquire the Information and further to access the information, taking copies of government documents, inspecting any government office and its documents. Our Chief guest further explained that the RTI Act empowers the Indian Citizens to question the secrecy and abuse of power practiced in governance and also to seek any accessible information from a public authority in order to make the government and its functionaries more accountable and responsible. Chief guest discussed various case laws on the application of the RTI Act 2005. The Chief guest interacted with our students of GTN Law College and clarified the doubts put forward by our students. Hence, the seminar was fruitful to all of us. Finally,Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Mathivanan, Professor of English, G.T.N. Law College, Dindigul.
